The Vehicular Emission Control Program (VECOP) experts on Tuesday inspected some 68 vehicles including 36 petrol and 32 diesel fueled vehicles and issued 17 of them of challan for emitting an excessive amount of smoke than allowed by the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS).
Project Director of VECOP, Shahid Farhad said they inspected the vehicles at Nazimabad no.07 where they checked 36 petrol and 32 diesel vehicles to gauge the quantity of smoke emitted by them.
Of 36 petrol-fueled vehicles, 20 were up to the national standards but 16 were found emitting smoke beyond the national criteria?said Shahid.
He added that they recommended the traffic police to issue challans to 6 petrol powered vehicles for being in a chronic condition.
Similarly, the VECOP experts inspected 32 diesel vehicles, mostly commercial vehicles, and concluded that out of the 32; most of them were emitting smoke beyond the national standard.
The director stated that only 11 vehicles were found to meet the standards while the traffic police were asked to issue challans to 11 diesel fueled vehicles.
